Early access to sound dramatically improves language outcomes: Studies confirm that access to sound, through devices such as cochlear implants and high-powered hearing aids at the youngest age possible, gives children the best opportunity to acquire communication skills similar to those of their hearing peers.

Children who received cochlear implants as infants and toddlers showed rapid improvement in auditory skills in the first year after implantation. The youngest children achieved the highest auditory skills and acquired auditory skills very close to those of their hearing peers at younger ages.
