Located within the Washington State University / Eastern Washington University Speech and Hearing Clinic is the area's only listening and spoken language preschool for children with hearing loss. The non-profit program offers a comprehensive, state-of-the-art preschool for families who want their deaf and hard of hearing children to learn to listen and talk.
Children will benefit from a language enriched environment that will maximize their communication and academic potential. Families will benefit from a supportive atmosphere with a rich wealth of resources. Children with normal hearing can also benefit from this "language enriched" program.

Facilities The preschool is housed in a spacious 1,000 square foot classroom, complete with kitchen and enclosed playground. In addition, treatment rooms are available for individual speech and audiology sessions.
Our mission is to optimize the acquisition of listening, learning and speaking skills in children who have hearing loss and provide a supportive environment for their families.
Spokane HOPE School is the vision of professionals and families of children with hearing loss. At the heart of this vision is the belief that children with hearing loss should have the opportunity to maximize their listening and spoken language communication skills and be independent participants in mainstream society.
Students receive instruction from a certified teacher of deaf and hard of hearing children. Students may also receive speech-language therapy and/or audiology services from graduate students, supervised by state licensed and nationally certified speech pathologists and/or audiologists.
Preschool ProgramPreschoolers attend either four mornings or four afternoons per week. HOPE School's Preschool Program follows a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is child-centered and theme based. Activities are planned to promote parent involvement and carryover of language at home. Small group language intensive instruction is designed to prepare children for a successful transition to their neighborhood school.
Toddlers and their parents meet one morning per week on Fridays from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Graduate students receive instruction and supervision, as well as work in conjunction with the teacher. Academic ProgramSmall group language intensive instruction is designed to prepare children for a successful transition to their neighborhood school.
AudiologicalThe University Speech and Hearing Clinic which provides speech, language and hearing services is a cooperative program between Washington State University Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences and Eastern Washington University Department of Communication Disorders. It is housed on the Riverpoint Campus in the Health Sciences Building.
Audiological services provided on-site include cochlear implant and hearing aid checks along with minor repairs.
Individual speech and language services are available on site.
Cochlear Implant Complete cochlear implant services (medical and mapping) are available through Spokane Ear Nose and Throat Clinic which is located just a few minutes from the school.
Comprehensive individual assessments are completed on an annual basis in conjunction with ongoing classroom evaluations.

A networking group offering informational opportunities and support for families who have a child with hearing loss. Meetings are every other month and held on site as well. Contact Kelli Youk at kelli-@rocketmail.com or (509) 671-2782.
Consultation with day care centers, pre-schools, school districts and private schools is available.
Practicum experiences in the preschool are available to graduate students in speech/language pathology and audiology through Washington State University / Eastern Washington University.

As a private program, HOPE School relies on tuition for the costs of instruction. Parents are encouraged to contact their school district and insurance company prior to seeking financial assistance from HOPE School. Financial aid scholarships are available through an application process after all other funding sources have been exhausted. No child will be turned away based on financial need. Spokane HOPE School is a private program that relies on tuition for costs of instruction. For families who qualify for financial assistance, tuition will be based on a sliding fee. However, no child will be turned away based on financial need.
